Astoria Cooperative

The Astoria Co-op was originally incorporated as a non-profit under the name "The Community Store". The change to a cooperative business is quite recent. The transition occurred during 2004, when the membership voted with a 93% majority to make this transition.

The Astoria Cooperative is very open about the details of their operation – to the extent of posting their financial information online at their website. Interesting reading if you’re involved in the management of your own cooperative.

A coop share costs $200, and may be payed as a single payment or in installments of $25 or more. Benefits include discounts on all purchases, the potential for patronage refunds, and the opportunity to volunteer as a working-owner. Discounts are not specified on the website.
