Community Market Natural Foods Store

The Community Market is a member of the Provender Alliance, the National Nutritional Foods Association, and a member of the Organic Trade Association. They provide some great services including free grocery delivery for housebound or disabled individuals, a lifeline program for staples, and discounts for seniors, students, and the disabled.

The Community Market is a worker-run vegetarian co-op. They have a comprehensive product policy which allows them to classify items into three categories: Green, Yellow, and Red Light products. Green light products are exemplary products (to quote their website) which particularly embody the store’s values and are given priority on their shelves. Yellow light products may be stocked due to necessity or demand, and will have positive qualities, but may also have drawbacks in ingredients, packaging, labeling, or other ethical areas. Red light products are altogether banned from the store. This includes meats, poultry and fish, tobacco, and alcoholic beverages as well as any products tested on animals, irradiated, or boycotted products, amongst others!
