East Lansing Food Co-op

When the East Lansing Food Co-op incorporated in 1976, it had only 30 members. As of 2005, they’re membership numbers over 4,000 and growing. The co-op is committed to selling foods and merchandise that emphasizes health, nutrition, environmental responsibility, and local and organic production.

Membership requires a $2 non-refundable membership fee and the purchase of a share in the co-op. Shares costs $60, and are refundable at any time, minus a $5 processing fee. The $60 share fee must be paid within 27 months of joining. A membership is valid for a household, although the co-op encourages households with more than one adult to invest in memberships individually.

Membership entitles member-owners to receive periodic membership-appreciation discounts, support a local, member-owned venture, and to gain the opportunity to earn a 12% discount on purchases by working 2 hours/week at the Co-op.
