First Alternative Co-op

From their website:

First Alternative is a community-owned and cooperatively-run organization that is multifaceted. The Co-op operates two natural foods grocery stores, sponsors many educational activities, and donates money to various local charitable organizations. We serve as a recycling center, oversee the Corvallis Community Gardens, operate the Calzone Booth and administrate the Chefs in the Classroom program for local schools.

The most visible part of First Alternative is the grocery store located at 1007 SE 3rd Street. What began
as a small storefront operation in an old house on 4th Street has now grown into two stores. The first is located in SE Corvallis, is a 16,000 sq. ft. store (includes Co-op Meeting Room and Kitchen/Storage building). The second, located in NW Corvallis, is a 6,000 sq. ft. store which opened May 1, 2003. The sales for these two stores have grown to eleven million dollars annually in 2005.

An owner share at the First Alternative costs $70, payable in full, through a payment plan, or through a special low-income plan. Benefits include discounts, owner appreciation days, and worker-owner volunteer discounts.
