Madison Market began as Capitol Hill Co-op in 1978. Over the next 20 years, they expanded several times through remodeling efforts until in 1998 they took a big jump – changing locations and adopting their new trade name. By July, 2000 their membership had doubled from 3,000 to 6,000. Madison Market is a Certified Organic Retailer in their Produce, Bulk and Meat departments per the Washington State Department of Agriculture.

Membership costs a one-time investment of $60. Benefits include monthly Member Appreciation days with 10% discounts, eligibility for membership in Group Health Credit Union, and discounts from participating business nearby.
